The "Network engineering and management" Master programme is offered jointly by the Hochschule für Technik Stuttgart, and Ostfalia (Wolfenbüttel), Trier and Esslingen Universities of Applied Sciences. They have developed a concept for a joint degree programme which is coordinated with the Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfachs e. V. (DVGW), VDE (FNN) and important energy suppliers. The curriculum is characterised not only by the theoretical foundation required but also by its practical relevance. The liberalisation of the energy market and the greater competitive challenges which accompany this are making it even more important to treat sectors such as electricity, water and gas in a holistic way.
In a sector-specific company, the appropriate “know-how” and staff capacity must be kept separately available for each sector. A high level of inter-sector coordination is required to be able to provide the technical solutions to the customer efficiently.
The part-time “Network engineering and management” Master’s degree is the logical further development of the previous course, the “network engineer” training certificate, to do justice to the market and today’s demands in the long term. Graduates with a Master’s degree in network engineering and management are ideally suited for managerial positions in energy supply companies according to W1000, G1000, S1000 and VDE1000.
The concept for the new part-time “Network engineering and management” Master's degree is based on the course which used to award the “network engineer gas/water” training certificate. It was offered for almost ten years as a part-time, practical, postgraduate course for the specialist engineers of the supply industry and equipped them with the additional knowledge they needed about the technology, the operation and the management of gas and water supply networks.
Its curriculum has been extended considerably, an academic structure has been adopted and the original course has thus been transformed into the 4-semester “Network engineering and management” Master programme. The new degree programme concludes with an academic qualification - a Master's degree; it has successfully passed a comprehensive university accreditation process and has been granted the seal of approval of the ASIIN accreditation agency.
