Main fields of research

The main fields of research at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences are embodied in three key research priorities, under which the university is also represented on the research map of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK). These main fields of research encompass numerous research groups each focusing on its own discipline-specific work (see also diagram below).

Sustainable Energy Technology and Mobility

This research priority combines application-oriented research in the following key technological areas: sustainable energy technology from regenerative generation and storage through to intelligent distribution, electromobility and autonomous systems.

Intelligent Production / Smart Factory

This research priority combines application-oriented research in the following key technological areas: intelligent production and manufacturing systems and manufacturing technologies, Smart Factory, Industry 4.0, digital twin, Internet of Things, cyber-physical systems as well as machine learning/artificial intelligence.

Social, Nursing, Health Care and Educational Research in the Context of Societal Change

Societal change requires (social) scientific analyses in the research fields addressed. This is the main focus of this key research priority, which combines different academic perspectives to take account of the complexity of social and health issues.
