Founded in 2023, the Institute for Applied Plastics Technology (IAK) is a research institute affiliated with the Faculty of Machines and Systems at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences.

The main aim of the IAK is to combine research and industry. This is done by carrying out application-oriented research projects in which plastics technology companies are supported with problems or challenges.

The institute offers a variety of services, using state-of-the-art equipment and expertise to support regional companies and SMEs with their concerns.

Another important goal of the IAK is to mediate between industry and students, who represent future specialists. The aim is to create a close link between academic education and the requirements of industry.
